Blackberry services will be blocked by the Indonesian government if the service provider Research In Motion (RIM) does not block porn on the devices.

Yesterday’s reports said that a directive was issued by Indonesian Communication and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring “requesting” that Canadian-based RIM comply.

Sembiring said:”If they are still not responding to our request, we have to close it down.”

Criticism say that it is not possible to completely block all porn in a country as big as Indonesia and the porn will only be moved to other fields which are yet not used as much as they will be in the future.

In 2008 the Indonesian government issued an anti-porn law and with this latest act it is following up the rules strictly. The Blackberry devices however uses its own RIM servers, so the porn-law couldn’t stop the company untill this day.

Sembiring reacted and said in the report:”RIM may violate our law if it remains providing porn content in its service (in Indonesia)”.

RIM whas asked to help the Indonesian government to fight against crime together and set up servers to do so. It whas also asked to bring in tax free revenue and to decrease the charges for customers. Now the same servers are also used to help Indonesia to block the porn from the BlackBerry.

17 Attorneys General from different states are calling on Craigslist.org to shut down Adult Services section of the very popular website. Sex ads are a major source of income for the company and on one count they saw 7,000 ads in the Adult Services section in just one day.
